Annotation

The project Work is Open for Everybody focused on supporting skilled migrants who were seeking a suitable job in the Czech Republic, but were so far either unemployed or working at low-skilled or unskilled positions, far below their education and previous work experience, often on the edge of the gray economy.

Project description

In this project we have developed a successful methodology for group and individual counselling, as well as an education program curriculum for this target group. Courses were based on an interactive approach. The participants trained real-life situations, to which they will be exposed on the job market, they learned to communicate better (among others by learning specialized vocabulary and by attending language classes, where besides practicing grammar they trained phraseology), and also hold a presentation in front of a group or a potential employer.

In this project, we also focused on training so-called multipliers – i.e. selected people from migrant communities, who are also actively involved in them. These were then led to spread the acquired information among their communities. Furthermore, we concluded the project with a roundtable, where we presented the outputs and outcomes of the project to delegates of nonprofit organizations and the public sector.

Project outputs

  • 38 individuals graduated from the training program, more than 40% of them later found a suitable job
  • a comprehensive methodology for group counselling was created (it won the National Award for Career Guidance competition in 2012)
  • 46 other members of the migrant communities were trained
  • a roundtable was attended by 50 representatives of NGOs and the public sector
