Work is open for everybody
Foreigners in the Czech Republic have to face many obstacles when looking for a job corresponding to their qualification. Apart from the language barrier and discrimination from the employer’s side, they are also hindered by their unfamiliarity with the local working environment (lack of knowledge about their rights and obligations, about the labor law, about how to proceed to find a job and about how to prepare for a job interview). Moreover, migrants are often victims of exploitation, either by intermediate agencies, through which they arrived to the country, or by unscrupulous employers. The consequence is that even highly skilled migrants are working at very poorly paid, unqualified and insecure jobs, often on the edge of the law.
The objective of the project “Work is open for everybody” is to give these foreigners a chance, through an educational course, to learn everything they need to know about the job market in Prague, so that they can put their skills to use and so that through their qualification they can contribute to the growth of the Czech economy.
Educational course
The first phase of the project will consist of the direct education of migrants, the aim being to increase their chances at fulfilling themselves on the job market in Prague. This phase will include 3 cycles, each of which will consist of 4 educational workshops and several language classes to prepare for the workshops (the first cycle starts in February 2011). The workshops and classes will be highly interactive, the participants will train for real life situations, which they will have to face on the job market, they will learn how to better communicate (among others thanks to the language classes), one of the course’s highlights will also be the exchange of information between each participant.
Main topics of the course:
- Foreigners’ rights and privileges on the Czech job market
- How to look for a job and prepare for the selection procedure
- Selection procedure training (job interview training)
- Personal development and evaluation
The course will also offer a trip to the employment agency and to some companies.
Number of participants and group composition:

- Foreigners with a long term residency permit (povolení k dlouhodobému pobytu)

Trainers’ training
In order to have an impact on as many members of the target group as possible, and since the number of participants to the course is limited, the next phase of the project “Works is open for everybody” will be the training of some members of the migrants’ community, in which they are active. The trainers can then pass down the learnt information to the members of his/her community, the project will thus indirectly educate many more foreigners. The training will take place after the third cycle of the course, so as to be able to use all the findings from the course.
Activities:
- Two trainers’ trainings, with the participation of experts from various segments of the job market;
- A roundtable with the participants to the course, with experts from the business field, from governmental and non-governmental organizations, and with politicians.
Goal:
- Prove the effectiveness of the educational cycle;
