Good Work for Women
ECG is focusing on improving access to information on the EU anti-discrimination legislation among ordinary people and specialists on the long time term. The „Good work for women“ seminar has been a part of this framework. It offered a unique opportunity to compare and reflect on practical implementation and impact of anti-discrimination legislation and core labour standards in various EU regions from gender perspective. It addressed the biggest problem that women face - which is the anti-discrimination behaviour on the labour market.
The women activists from the old and new EU member states (Germany, Finland, Austria, Czech Republic, Romania, Lithuania, Serbia) discussed their experiences, exchanged information, visited local organisations and got knowledge about the projects which helped unemployed and disadvantaged women.
Participants also discussed and created a definition/vision of what „good work“ for women meant in the light of balance between family and work, persisting gender stereotypes and discrimination of women in the labour market:
* equal payment for men and women
* good working background (atmosphere, breaks,…)
* basic social security for all types of work (sick-benefit, maternity and parental benefits,…)
* harmonising professional and family life
* respect and appreciation
* flexible working time
* sense of belonging to some community
* to have some own place
* appreciation of women such as working persons with labour rights
* availability by urban mass transportation
* appropriate technical equipment
This seminar was carried out in cooperation with the Kirchlicher Dienst in der Arbeitswelt (KDA) Hanover, Germany.
It has been co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Czech Republic government through the Global Grant, the Kirchlicher Dienst in der Arbeitswelt (KDA) Hanover, Germany and by the Strategic Initiative Fund of the World Council of Churches, Geneva, Switzerland.
